Abstract
A collection of poetry that explores what it means to inhabit a gendered and categorized body in our manmade world. These poems examine the construction of time, religion, the speed of our travel, the manufactured thrills in amusement parks, the makeshift communities of strangers on buses, trains, and hospitals. Nature is present but often in the background and cultivated, sometimes obstructed, as it frequently occurs in our daily lives. These poems engage with how our constructed landscapes shape our language, our interactions with the world, and our poetic voices. While grounded in the personal lyric, the manuscript allows for surprise, multiplicity of time, the historical, scientific, mathematical, and non-linear motion.
