Abstract
This study was conducted to collect outdoor recreation participation data to contribute to the creation of a 1985 outdoor recreation plan for the state of Texas. During July and August 1980, telephone interviews were administered to 12,866 Texas residents regarding their outdoor recreation behavior in public areas over the previous 12 months. Some respondents also were asked to provide information about other members of the household. Variables in the dataset describe amount of state park use, recreation activity preferences, and participation rates for 23 specific outdoor activities, including team sports and games (e.g., tennis, football, and playground activities), fresh water and ocean sports (e.g., canoeing, kayaking, and fishing), camping, hiking, hunting, off-road motorcycling, horseback riding, backpacking, and picnicking. Background information includes county of residence and ethnic origin of respondent, as well as sex and age of respondent and household members.Cf: http://doi.org/10.3886/ICPSR07847.v1
