Abstract
In today's technical industries, there is a serious lack of skilled workers. Many companies are resorting to hiring unskilled workers and teaching them the technologies they need to do their jobs. For large or deadline intensive projects, companies rely on consultants. The major problem with this system is that companies cannot find consultants with the skills they need in a timely or efficient fashion. The MatchMaker program is a web-based business tool for putting companies and consultants together. I wrote this thesis in Perl, the programming language of the Internet, and the program offers several features. Both companies and consultants can register themselves in the database. The program can give a complete listing of either database or a limited set of results based on the desired skills. There is also a complete section for posting and searching through available jobs within registered companies. This thesis is being marke ted by Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) and the InterCom group at the University of Virginia. MatchMaker is the cornerstone of a larger and more encompassing BusinessBuilder Development Set, which comprises a full suite of applications to be used by the companies of Virginia to make them more productive and effective in their respective fields.
