Said to be based on a real-life incident in a remote part of South Australia in 1932, a young girl living with her parents on a desolate sheep run, is entranced one night by a full moon. She leaves her bed and room to follow the moon into the rough countryside. Her absence is discovered by her mother within a few hours and her father rides into town to get help. The veteran police sergeant brings along his black tracker to lead the search. Incredibly, the father refuses to have the black tracker on his property. Rather, he gathers as many white men as possible to search while the tracker watches helplessly as every trace of the child is stamped to dust. After days of futile searching, the mother enlists the support of the tracker
