a| This film looks at how the Yolngu, the Aboriginal people of Yirrrkala in North East Arnhem Land and their culture survived forty years of missionary influence followed by the development of a huge bauxite mine. It gives an impressionistic picture of Yolngu cultue in 1982, 12 years after mining started. Central to the film is a funeral ceremony for a senior woman. Also included is a Christian Youth Fellowship meeting discussion on the effects of alcohol and the relationship between Yolngu faith and Christianity.
