a| This film explores the way the Yolungu, the people of North East Arnhem Land, cope with death through ties of clan, religion and land. When a child died unexpectedly at Gurka'wuy, a clan homeland settlement some 120 kilometres south of Yirrkala, the filmmaker was asked to record the funeral rites. This ethnographic classic explains in detail the complex elements of the ritual and its symbols.
