a| The paper is intended to provide background research and other information as a basis for discussion. The study was commissioned by the National Youth Affairs Research Scheme. The main aim was to focus on health issues affecting Aborigines aged 12 to 25 years. Attention was paid to differences between groups living in rural, remote and metropolitan areas. There is an emphasis on the social issues connected with ill-health. The draft report was circulated to key individual health professionals, Aboriginal medical services and representatives of the National Youth Affairs Scheme in each state. The objectives of the study were " to identify and document major health issues affecting young Aboriginal people across various groups; to analyse current strategies addressing these issues; and to recommend strategies to improve the health of young Aboriginal people." (NYARS).
