From the Bulletin of the University of Virginia Medical School and Hospital, Fall 1941: "Dr. Samuel A. Vest has been appointed Associate Professor of Urology and Director of the Department of Urology filling the vacany created by the death of the late Dr. John H. Neff. He was born in North Carolina in January, 1905. He attended the University of North Carolina and received his B.A. degree from Duke University in June, 1926. In 1930 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine from Johns Hopkins University.... Dr. Vest...took part in some of the first investigative work on sulfanilamide compounds as applied to urology and also some of the first investigative work on the use of synthetic male hormones."
