Frederick Douglass IV, left, great-great-grandson of the19th-century abolitionist, orator, statesman and publisher, and his wife, B.J., foreground, met with students in the Rotunda July 3, 2002. Through a dramatization, the couple brought to life Frederick Douglass and his wife, Anna, for the students, who are studying the role of activism throughout American history. The UVa Center for Politics, along with the Summer Enrichment and Upward Bound programs, sponsored the event.
