Summary
From excerpt: William Chettle of Bethesda, MD, and Celia Wren of New York, NY, sent the visitor count at the University's three year old visitor's center at the Ivy Road police headquarters over the 100,000 mark when they stopped in for a map of the Grounds shortly after 2pm on June 29, 1989. As it happens, Chettle is a travel writer for Let's Go USA and was touring the area to update the guide's next edition. He was given a copy of the Pictorial History of the University of Virginia, a Jefferson Cup and a McGruff stuffed toy after a brief welcome by University President Robert M. O'Neil and Director of Police Michael Sheffield.
