Summary
Julio Rodrigues-Luis of the State University of New York at Binghampton spoke on Hispanic Caribbean literature at the first meeting of an international team of Caribbean scholars held at the University from October 27-29, 1986. The conference will eventually lead to publication of the first comparative literary history of the Caribbean region. A. James Arnold, director of the University's comparative literature program, was named director of the research group that will produce the multi-volume literary history, which is slated for completion by the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's discovery of the Americas.
