Notes
  • This printing has 23 mm space between the upper and lower half (another printing has 15 mm); the last specimen in the first column has title "Italick" (another printing has "Two Lines English Italick"); the title of the second specimen from the bottom in the first column, "Two Lines English", measures 43 mm (in another printing, it measures 60 mm); the last specimen in the fourth column has title "Minion Greek" (another printing has "Nonpareil Greek on a Minion Body"); the fifth specimen from the bottom in the fourth column has title "Double Pica Greek" (another printing has "Glasgow Homer Greek"); the space between the "I" in the title and the "I" in "Double Pica Roman" is 16 mm (in another printing, it is 18 mm).

  • "The above are some of the sizes cast in the letter foundery of Dr. Alex. Wilson and Sons. Glasgow. 1783. The binder is desired to place this broadside in the middle of the sheet 13 A, Vol. III. facing article Printing, method of." The reference is to v. 3 of Ephraim Chambers, Cyclopaedia, 4 v., 1778-1783; v. 3 was published in 1781, but this specimen was intended to be added to existing copies.
