Topics include bibliographical matters pertaining to Kit Carson, Joseph Conrad, English Renaissance texts; watermarks in writing paper used by Thomas Jefferson; the Hemings family; the Revolutionary press in Charlottesville; Jefferson and Virginia property and Jefferson book ownership.
Research on the Hemings family includes an extract from the Virginia "Recorder" 1801 September 2 containing James Callender's accusation; a copy of the autobiography of Madison Hemings from the Pike County "Republican" 1873 March 13; a mimeograph copy of Douglass Adair's "The Jefferson Scandals"; an obituary for Cornelia Durnley Garrett, former Albemarle County slave; and genealogical charts of Jefferson family slaves.
Research on the the Revolutionary press concerns the period when Charlottesville was the temporary seat of government for the state of Virginia, and contains information on and some copies of Charlottesville imprints by the firm of Dunlap & Hayes as well as a manuscript of Wyllie's "Charlottesville imprints."
